NEW - you do not have to be an Elks
Lodge member to be a member of The Highlands. However, there
are advantages for people who choose to be members of the Elks Lodge
#48, just as in the past.We have several NEW membership programs
designed to meet your golfing needs and schedule.
Click on one of the membership plans on the left to see details about
the great plans available for 2008 at THE HIGHLANDS.
General information for all members.
Will there be member events?
Absolutely. We strongly encourage you to play in member events. We
will work closely with the member Golf Committee and Ladies Golf Association
to ensure the success of your events and we will assist you in every way
possible. Even though The Highlands will be designated as a semi-private
club, it won’t prohibit our participation in the Women’s City events,
etc. In fact, I have already spoken with the person in charge of the
Women’s events and The Highlands is scheduled to host an event in June
or July, and the end of the season event in September.
The great Donald Ross
classic design. Golfers will continue to have a fantastic golf course. We will
continue to maintain the golf course impeccably. Tim Pratt, the
superintendent, did a magnificent job in 2007. Tim will remain in his
position with full authority to maintain the course in the highest
standards possible. We will continue his current and long-range
maintenance objectives.
Will it be easy to get a tee time ? Members have the privilege
of booking tee times 8 days in advance. Non-members can only reserve 5
days in advance, unless they have a group of 16 players or more. Members
will have the privilege of scheduling standing tee times to ensure their
ability to play on certain days, at a particular
time (standing tee times). We will work with all members to ensure that
they can play at their regular times.
Will there be golf leagues? There will be a
few on Tuesday through Thursday including member’s men's and women's
leagues. There may be a league on Monday night, however, due to the fact
that outings generally schedule a Monday event, any league would be
small and would not tee off until 6:00. There will be times, however,
when you may not be able to get a tee time exactly when you would like
to play. The first year, especially, we will try to do our best to
stagger leagues so one nine could be open when the other nine has a
league. There may be some slight overlaps where both nines are reserved
at the same time, but only for ½ hour or so, or when your own member
leagues are playing on the opposite nine as other leagues. It may be
possible for you to play eighteen holes on late afternoons, but you will
have to plan a little ahead, and make a tee time on both nines. League
schedules will be posted in the golf shop and locker rooms so you will
know what times are open.
Will there be more outings? Certainly we
hope that outings will want to visit this fine facility. But, with the
late start that we have had in promoting the great benefits of The
Highlands, it may be difficult to get more than just a few new outings
for 2008. Perhaps your business, church group, or private party would
like to have your own golf outing at The Highlands. No group is too
small. We would enjoy hosting your outing and will help you to make it a
great success.
The Highlands is always in great condition and
has a reputation for some of the best greens around. Will non-member
play change that? We will also take great pride in the condition of
the golf course. Our green fees will be in the higher end for the Grand
Rapids area. This will help limit the type of golfer that will be
playing at The Highlands. We will also be using highly trained Player’s
Assistants (a more upscale course Marshall) who will be monitoring
non-member play. What problems we encounter, if any, will be addressed
properly. The Player’s Assistants will act as a buffer between
non-member and member play and will act as a deterrent to potential
problems.
It is going to be an exciting year at The
Highlands. We hope that you will want to be a golf member for 2008. For those of you who don’t play enough to justify
the cost of a full unlimited membership, we have a great green fee discount program.
Please ask us how you can save on regular priced green fees for the
entire 2008 season. This preferred customer program is also available
for non-Elk members.
Thank you very much for allowing me to share our
plan to increase you golfing pleasure for 2008. We are thrilled to be managing the golf operations at
The Highlands. We look forward to meeting all of you and hope
that you will give us an opportunity to show you how our “Change Without
Changing” business plan will make a membership at The Highlands as
desirable as ever.
Sincerely,
Steve & Lynn Scheuermann
